PETE

UP UNTIL NOW, THE MAJORITY OF MY STREET PHOTOS HAVE BEEN TAKEN WITH THE SUBJECT BEING ASKED FOR PERMISSION PRIOR TO THE ACTION. THIS PROJECT FOR MELBOURNE MUSIC WEEK HOWEVER GAVE ME A CHANCE TO ADOPT A MORE CANDID APPROACH, AND WHAT I LOST IN TERMS OF PHOTOGRAPHIC CONTROL, I CERTAINLY GAINED WITH REGARD TO CAPTURING HUMAN BEHAVIOUR IN IT’S PUREST STATE. I LOVE THIS SHOT OF PETE, WHO I FOUND CHILLING AT THE INVISIBLE CITY LANEWAY PARTY, WHERE HE’S IN THAT HALFWAY STAGE BETWEEN UNAWARENESS AND AWARENESS, A FLEETING STATE OF BALANCE BETWEEN INTERACTION AND SINCERITY THAT IS OTHERWISE NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE TO ACHIEVE WHEN ONE COMPLETE STRANGER TAKES A PHOTO OF ANOTHER.
